The day before my new job

Hmm… it’s been quite some time that I’ve not been blogging. How should I begin with?*thinking…. For those that I have not been hearing from me, I have moved from Health Promotion Board to Temasek Poly. Feel free to meet me for lunch when you visit the school. *wink The past Saturday and Sunday was good because I was not owned by any employer. I am the owner of myself. Sound great right? Haha… But good time flies and I indulged myself into the shopping with my boyfriend. I hardly go for shopping since I started working in HPB and started my part-time degree. Since Temasek Poly is nearer to my home, could I earn more time for studies? Recently, I bought some web designer magazine and they have very interesting articles. It would be nice if we can have a Singapore version. Then, the magazine might be cheaper. If work is not busy in TP, I might share it here….=)

Despite I have some excellent events happening this few months, I did faced ridiculous events as well… The sources of these ridiculous events are of course from ridiculous people around me. They are many reasons to each individual incident. I hope they can be resolved on their own as I have completely no time for their nonsense and have much important things as such exams and work to concentrate on. So….

I wonder anyone has the same sentimental as me – it’s been long that nation has been promoting it’s Courtesy Campaign. Well… it’s not an essential issue to me until I start to be irritated by rude behavior in public places. Throughout this year, I have real bad experiences even just for a simple shopping trip.

Scenario 1:
If you are shopping trip and was carrying a couple of shopping bags with your personal bag and laptop bag. How would you feel if some young girls came knocking on to you and give you a strange start expecting you to apologize to them?

Scenario 2:
You are walking and chatting with your group of friends while walking towards a shopping mall. How would you feel if someone just cut into your area and knock into you despite the large area around you. It’s not a crowded place by the way.

In both scenarios, it’s pretty obvious that either I’m carry lots of stuff or with a large group. Therefore I conclude that it’s is visually “big” enough to be seen. But why are people expecting me to apologise when they come intersect into my path despite the large empty area around me? Not been racist or biased, but both scenario that I recently faced happen to be either youngsters or foreigners residing in Singapore.

“ Have they been taught or knew anything about our Courtesy Campaign?”, I asked myself. I hope Singaporeans or people that live in Singapore can me more courtesy and stop bumping into people. Well… even there is, please stop staring at people and expect an apologize.

Personally, I will try not to knock into some one if given a choice. But please don’t blame me if you chose to bump into me when I’m carrying many things…!

Today, I have taken a test and the topic is “What the others see in you”. I am a person whom seldom takes tests because it is somehow a waste of time, unless they are from reliable sources and are proven accurate.

However, this test somehow or rather attracts my attention. Therefore, I spent a few minutes answering the 10 questions. My result is as follows:

04/08 Busy, Changes and Planning

It has been rather busy for me since the last week of July, a period full of important events. Lots of uncertainty and pending plans has been answered. More plans and adjustments can be done for the future!

Here’s some good news on my side:

IELTS (International English Language Testing System)
My IELTS result is out! It is a SEVEN! Though I knew that I still have to bush up my English standard, but the result means so much to me! It completely covered the D7 disgrace I have in my GCE O Level and personally I am half way through my language challenge. Yippe!

SIM – RMIT
Early August, I received my best news in this year! I’m admitted into the course of RMIT Mass Communication in SIM. Though I have applied similarly course from MDIS, RMIT Australia and Curtin, and have also received offer letter from them, I didn’t feel as delighted as compared to this.

This month in my workplace there is a farewell lunch for Kelvin. He is also a contract-staff whom works on the same floor as me, but in different section. A tradition among the youngsters in my workplace, we treated him a farewell lunch and took photos with him. Among the group are me, KC, Joey, Eng Ong, Liao Kong and Kelvin (the star of the day). WAIT till 7 July for IELTS test. 13 days after 10 July to WAIT for result.
WAIT for enrolment of part time study till I have make up what I want

RMIT Advertising in Australia (have been offered a place in Year 2008)
RMIT Mass Comm in RIM (still pending for reply from SIM till Aug
Oklahoma City University from MDIS (has been offered a place but has to pay before July to avoid the GST hike)

WAIT for my contract with SIA to end on 30 NOV. But what do I do next?

Finally, after several calls and enquires I have got the answer from the TP “Any applicant who has suffered from epilepsy will not be granted a driving license.” However, I realized an issue. Since it is an offence in the eyes of SG laws, then why there aren’t any barriers towards it? I have even got my basic and advanced theory passed before. There’s no blockage and highlight at all. I guess I could have also gone for the Practical Driving as well. Should I bear the social responsibility? Or just go ahead with the driving learning?

Since driving might be out for me, will diving too? What other barriers has the God set for me?

Cycles of changes and plans

Question: If our plans can never keep up with the changes, should we still plan?

This year I am planing for driving, diving and studying for the benefit of my future. However, the decisions were interrupted by various factors. Frankly speaking, I’m rather tired and I kept asking myself why. Why do I have to work so hard whilst the other achieve them so easily?

Just recently, En posted an entry of Liling’s house. Hmm… very envy!

Then, I turn back and look at myself… Oh no! I’m still with nothing after a few years of working life. Still the same as I graduated from NYP.

Summer and the school holidays

I never have liking for weather between May to July, especially during the school’s holiday. Squeezing the public transport and hearing the noisy crowd during non-peak hours in weekdays are nightmares to me. Therefore, I ensconcing myself at a concern of the crowded train, I began to dream driving my own Mini Cooper and enjoying the breeze on the road. In reality, I have neither… haiz

How fast the time flies… now is already June. My quarterly depression moods activated on itself again. With a few unstable issues running around my mind, I can not help but to feel helpless and hopeless again. Other than support and words of encouragement, I need to find out my goals as well. What I can say is that this year is full of confusion, unstable and bad luck. Will the second part of the year be better?

As I read back my entries, I discovered that most of them are negative thoughts. In the future, I want to minimize the negative channel out and turn every possible entry to a positive one.

It is a week full of negative news. I hate it.

Epilepsy Result
As in my previous entry, I meet an attitude neuroscience doctor that advice me not to drive and dive. He even suggested me to go on medication. Luckily, it’s just an optional solution. It’s still alright not to take medicine as long I have no relapse or frequent seizure.

On Friday I meet up with my friend to MOM, he told me he has the same condition as me. But, HE IS DRIVING! That leads me to should I still go ahead with my driving and diving plan? Moreover, getting a license first could be a good thing. Driving license are hard to obtain these days.

The Cough and Flu
Whenever it is between May and July, I will get this irritating illness. It never fails to visit me at least once a year but I refuse always refuse a treatment on it. I simply wait for it to change into different stages and recover by its own. But I hate coughing and sneezing around, it’s disturbing my lifestyle.

MOM vs Open World Asia Pte Ltd
This week we finally received the letter from the Labor Court with the failure of Mr. Ong to pay for our salaries. We proceed to the other court for an order to seize the company properties. To our shock, we have to pay $600 upfront with a possibility that the company might already be emptied.

This is ridiculous. I lost faith to Singapore’s system. I felt that as a citizen I have not received enough help. My friends and I have made every effort to claim back our pay. We WORKED for the month! Why can’t we have it back? We went through every procedure in MOM hoping for a fair treatment. It didn’t fail us. The verdict is Mr Ong was ordered to pay us.

Here comes the problem, Mr Ong refuse to pay. The only option is to seize the company’s property but we have to pay $600 first. And there might be a possibility that we are seizing an empty office because Mr Ong holds the key. He might have already sell the property in the office!

Now… I feel really helpless and disappointed and nothing but to agree with Jack Neo’s movie “Just Follow Law”. Tell me… what else can I do?

Diagnosis of my epilepsy

As mentioned, I am updating the conditions of my epilepsy today after my visit to NUH Neuroscience department. After every trip for doctor’s appointment, I never fail to complaint. Am I expecting too much of the doctors or the service standard just aren’t up to standard? I bet many of you are aware of the long waiting time, especially in the hospital, and expensive consultant charges for the few minutes of advices.

The episode today is more focused on the doctor whom I think that he has gold in his mouth. He simply DID NOT give me much knowledge about my condition. I could feel the few attempts that he wants to end the conversations. It’s simply a question and answer session, every question posted by me is replied with a short answer by him.

Shouldn’t there be patient rights? Shouldn’t the patient be provided with the basic knowledge of their conditions? Why are we paying them where they can solve our problem during the consulting time?

Sometime I can’t resist but to wonder was it because I’m a subsided patient that I deserved that treatment. However, I believe and trust the fairness in the system that treatment received should be categorized by the amount paid.

I just can’t feel that every time trip from Tampines to NUH is worthy. Tell me how can I feel better?

Lastly, after the complaints, here’s the diagnosis of my condition.

Since young, I'm very attached to potato chips and I LOVE all potatoes products such as chips, fries, wedges and etc. Among the brands are Jack & Jills, Calbee and Lays. Now, I have new favorites, they are Thai Sweet Chili and Peking Spare Rib & Five Spice from Sensations from Walkers. It’s beyond my ability to describe how tasty they are. But I simply can resist, piece by piece, I send them into my mouth. For thee chips, I am willing to accept the possibility of growing fat as nowadays I don’t really exercise much. Keke….

It's been years that I have this irritating feeling, the feel of being helpless and no sense of security. Regardless of health, career, studies, relationship and even dreams (if I ever have one), I felt lousy. Other than relationship, the others barely make the mark. What when wrong?

After working in the society, only my PR skill improved and EQ is important in work if you don’t have the essential “luck” with you. At least, you don’t fall too much behind.

Recently all my cousins consoled me in regardless of my health problem. They probably know best because we are childhood playmates and they watched me suffer through. I loved this idiom said by one of my cousins.

Potential in having epilepsy

Oh well… here’s comes the first bad news after birthday celebrations. I have visited NUH at 10.30am on 9th May 2007. It wasn’t to see the doctor but to do an EEG test for epilepsy. If you are my friends in the school days, you will probably know about my medical history. I’m it is an exciting one compare to yours.

The EEG tests any symptoms of epilepsy and the reason to take it is to get a doctor’s permission for driving. I am sure you would have heard of “If you drink, don’t drive”. Now, I am telling you “If you have epilepsy, don’t drive!”.

During the test, I was made to sleep for half an hour, or at least at relax mode, and to act as instructed by the technician. She recorded the brainwave in my brain for that duration.

The technician showed me the disturbance I have during the discharge of excess electricity in my brain. Here’s a photo of it

Here’s what she said to me:

“I think you have to stop your driving plans at the moment till further advise from the doctor on the 21st May. The graphs shows intensive disturbance lasting from a few seconds to a few minutes.”

O.S. from my heart,” DAMM IT… there’s goes my mini cooper.:(”

Although the possibility is small, still I hope to hear good news from the doctor on the 21st May. Probably he might tell me I can - proceed with my driving plan? - No need to be on medical? - No need to come back for drug testing?

I really hate the medicated lifestyle, especially they have side effects on human body. Also to mention about the hassle of visiting hospital for drug test and consultation, it is NUH this time. It is all the way from Tampines to Bona Vista.

Not forgetting to mention, I must keep myself from stress too. Too much of it might fasten up the frequency of epilepsy. So… Dear friends… Please don’t(strikethrough) NEVER stress me!.. haha…

Maybe… you can tell me how to feel stress in the current Singapore Society?

Ops… I am late for the weekly update, please forgive me! Anyway, I have a good reason for it and that is “My Birthday”! Thanks to those that have messaged me throughout the weekends, your intention is greatly appreciated.

It has been some time that I have felt the warmth of friendship. First, it is the S.S then is the RSS and now, it is the BVSS. Yeah… call me a loser or whatever you like and I just can not help it. I need my dosage of love, dote and princess treatment from my friends. Especially to the faithful suppliers who tolerate my willfulness no matter how ridiculous I am.

We went to the Japanese Restaurant at Tampines Swimming Complex. Through verbal comments, the restaurant seems not bad and it is drawing long queues everyday. Personally I still felt that Sakae Sushi and Sushi Tei are much better than it.

We proceeded to a new pub in Changi Village after the dinner for a drinking session. The ambience is pretty nice. The only negative points are we can see xiao qiang and is a bit hot that night.

This pair of sunglass is given by BVSS. I was really shocked and surprise by this gift. It must have burnt a big hole in their pocket. I must make go use of it after fixing the nose support.

Job search – Not much progress.

There’s nothing much to be updated this week. I’m still searching for a job. Meanwhile, I will try to enjoy me life while upgrading a few body parts (both software and hardware).

I suspect that I am kind of tired of working life-style. The news of getting a job probably no longer thrills me. To reason to work is for the monthly income. I seriously think of studying now. May be I should go back to school for studies so that I will be more valuable in the further?

Last Saturday, S.S questioned me on how I would like to celebrate my birthday this year. I gave it a serious thought since I’m rather free these days.

Let’s have a quarter-life celebration. I reckon that I would not wish to celebrate anymore after this year! Women’s age are supposed to be kept secret.

How about a themed night? Maybe we can all dress in retro or skirt? Haha…

Hail Nykole was developed to replace all blogs created for the name, Verene. It signified a milestone in my life. Hail Nykole celebrates the rebirth of me (with a name change) at the quarter century of life.

“Why change name?”

You would probably ask. Well… maybe for a better future? With Verene, all the companies that I have worked with either ceased operation or drag pays. With the Nykole, I hope for a more stable and achievable future.
